Publication of Riga Photography Biennial – NEXT 2025
Opening: April 24

The Riga Photography Biennial – NEXT 2025 pablication examines various aspects of the
Biennial’s main theme, “invisible but present”. In his essay “Trust AI, Fear the Future. Fear
AI, Trust the Future,” curator and artist Paulius Petraitis explores recent developments in
artificial intelligence, its role in shaping reality, and how AI influences perception within the
context of recent political events and the re-evaluation of history through visual media. The
catalogue feature Touched by Code, curated by the Biennial’s editor Evita Goze, features
seven young artists, whose work examines the intricate relationship between photography
and the technological advancements that have continuously influenced not only the
aesthetics of the medium but also the very content it produces. Curator and writer Lilian
Hiob introduces the winner of the “Seeking the Latest in Photography!” Award 2025,
Estonian artist Ruudu Ulas. Curator and writer Žanete Liekīte interviews the winner of the
“Emerging Curator!” Award, Roberta Atraste. The generously illustrated catalogue also
provides more information on the Biennial’s exhibitions, events and artists.
